Sailing
The sailing opportunities on the River Deben are excellent,
both for novices and for the more experienced sailor. Though
governed by the tide, sessions can be arranged either during
the day or in the evenings. Sailing sessions are carried out
in two person Wayfarer training dinghies, and single-handed Topper
dinghies are available for the more experienced.
The Centre also runs a programme of open sailing events and
courses. These include taster days and RYA courses for both young
people and adults. These take place during weekdays in the school
holidays and at weekends.
Canoeing
The Deben Centre can offer all levels of canoeing and kayaking
from a group activity or a taster session to a full course leading
to a BCU qualification. Canoeing normally takes place on weekdays
or evenings, and in normal conditions the river is accessible
at all states of the tide.
Land Based Activities
The Deben Centre is available for use by Groups planning activity
days or educational visits. Be this as part of a water sports
day or a field trip, a variety of land-based activities can be
supported including team building and initiative programmes for
groups visiting the Centre. It is close to Woodbridge Town
with its historical buildings and waterfront and to the Deben
River with its nature walks. Additional equipment may be available,
please contact the Suffolk Outdoor Education team to discuss
your requirements.
